Safety scandal at two popular car brands!

Ana sayfa / Technology

Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota, failed safety tests in recent weeks and was shaken by the emissions cheating scandal. As a result, production stopped in the company’s factories. This decision will also have consequences for Toyota, Mazda and Subaru.

A report conducted last week for Daihatsu showed that it had committed emissions irregularities by misleading testing procedures in Japan. Accordingly, the production and shipment of models such as Copen, Move and Hijet were stopped. It was revealed that the company knowingly understated emissions and deceived regulatory authorities.

Daihatsu has discontinued sales of affected models while it tries to resolve the issues. The company faces fines in Japan if its vehicles do not meet emissions standards.

However, Daihatsu is not the only company affected by this scandal. It was stated that Toyota, Mazda and Subaru models were also assembled in the Japanese company’s production facilities. This creates serious threats to the reputation of the three brands.

Although the affected models were not disclosed individually, 64 models from three manufacturers were reportedly involved in the emissions scandal. In the joint statement from the companies, an apology message was issued, stating that the tests would be examined. It should be reminded that shipments of these models have currently stopped.

Daihatsu is not the first Japanese automaker to experience an emissions scandal. Nissan and Mitsubishi admitted to committing a similar trick on diesel vehicles in 2016. But this is Japan’s biggest case involving gasoline cars.
